Monica Bliss - Grand Rapids

Journey to Movement:

Once I figured out that it wasn't necessary to be fast or be able to log endless hours to be a runner, I began to see myself as a runner.  Running was great therapy going through my divorce, but it is even better sharing it with my current husband!  Together, we've pushed each other to complete many races--both running and biking--of all distances.  Staying active helps keep my stress levels down, puts me in a more positive mood, and keeps my mind and body healthy.

What’s your favorite local place you have ran?

I love running downtown!  There is something about the energy of downtown Grand Rapids that pushes me.  And it's a great perk that sidewalks are typically clear of snow and ice in the winter!
Where’s the best place you’ve traveled?
I have really enjoyed the Adirondack Mountains.  My husband, Joe, and I have spent three weeks there in the last two years.  Out there, we have enjoyed several runs, day hikes, the ididaride! (a 77-mile bike ride through the mountains), and most recently I volunteered for 12 hours while Joe completed Ironman Lake Placid.  The community is so friendly and welcoming, the food is outstanding, and the scenery is just amazing!
