Sharing my authentic self means not having to hide any part of my identity for fear of safety or backlash from those around me. I long for a day when I, and all in the LGBTQIA+ community, won't have to pause to consider whether or not the space we are in, or the people we are with, will accept and support our existence and rights.
Kiri Bereznai
Pride, and living authentically, is important and powerful for me both personally and politically. Personal Pride is about acceptance of the evolving self, free from institutional influence and societal pressure to conform to just one or two kinds of human expression or experience. Political Pride is about rejection of the systems and structures of capitalism and white supremacy which seek to stigmatize, criminalize, and neutralize that free expression and existence. In that way, my most authentic life is one in which I simply am a trans person by nature, but also that I choose to be trans in a culture which profoundly fears that which it cannot control.
Kayla Webber
Sharing my authentic self is a way to connect with others in a vulnerable way in hopes they know they are seen and heard. Also, as a parent, it gives me hope that my kids know they can be, grow, and outwardly express who they are on the inside and be unconditionally loved by me.
